How to Enjoy a Good Book

Some say that the taste of the pudding is in the eating (pudding here can refer to Amala,  Egusi soup or whatever). Same holds true for books. Books are written to be enjoyed. Once the author has finished "cooking" it, you see it on a store, savour the mesmerizing cover,  dig in and devour it, page after page.

Reading books is one of life's greatest and most pleasurable activities. Not only do you learn a lot by reading, books take you to far away places that you could only dream of. On top of that, enjoying a book can be a  memorable experience.I can categorically say books changed my life, it started as a seeming punishment for me by my Mum and teachers, but later transcended into something i can't go a day without doing and i know this is also true for many of my readers here. But as tasty as this sounds, some people can't seem to get around to reading a book at least once a week even in today's digital age where you can read books on the go on your mobile phone. Hmmm, now to the crux of this article, i want us to share a few tips on how to enjoy a good book. I will put some tips i have been able to learn and gather, but i would also like to get some tips from you my blog pals on how you enjoy reading the novels i send you despite many pressures.

PLEASE SHARE, DON'T BE SELFISH O. Here we go...

1:Pick out a good book that you are interested in reading. If you like mystery, head over to the mystery section. If you like fantasy, go to the fantasy section, etc. Remember to read the synopsis of the book to see if the plot looks interesting, don't judge a book by it's cover

2:Find a quiet or calming place. This will help you become the character and focus more on the book. When you find the calm place, make sure you have a comfortable spot, for this will help you relax also get a drink to help you relax more.

3: Commit yourself. Allowing your mind to wander when reading is a major cause of giving up on reading. Put aside all thoughts of undone chores, things you'd rather be doing or the people you haven't yet texted this week. Commitment requires:
  • Setting aside distinct reading time. You can stop when the time's up but during that time, devote yourself to the book.
  • If you catch yourself daydreaming while scanning the words, gently remind yourself to come back to the present and dive right back into that book
4:  Picture what you're reading in your head. Using your imagination to form the places, people and actions you're reading about will help you understand what's going on more easily. Much of this will come naturally, as your mind tries to build the places, people and situations you're reading about from what you already know. For what you don't know, your imagination will cobble together all sorts of fantastical images. Let this happen and enjoy the process because it's your own inner world jumping out alive from the pages––and it's fun

5: Join a Book Club. Reading can be more enjoyable when you do it with  friends. Try to read the same book. Although if you read different books then keep each other informed on how good the book is. This will build up and keep you anticipated to read it too. The best part is reading what each of you just read. That way, you can discuss your book in a friendly manner. Also, a friend can encourage you to read. Don't hesitate to encourage your friend also.Join the Cynthia Kalu Book Club.

6: Enjoy the book.
